    Learning objectives

    This activity aims at introducing the students to the tools provided in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, with the aim of establishing and operating a Decision Support System for Botanical Garden Management. In particular, through this activity the students will:

    • Learn about the components of a GIS and the nature of spatial data and databases
    • Be able to perform basic spatial analysis through open-source software
    • Learn how to generate digital maps
    • Become familiar with the basics of Remote Sensing
    • Gain practical experience in digital image processing and analysis
    • Learn how to set up and operate a Decision Support System in general and for the management of a botanical garden, in particular.
